Save The White Lion
Could you be the person, or team, to lead The White Lion into the next phase of it’s life? With plans in pace for a fresh, new look and a community firmly behind the idea of re-opening their beloved village pub, we’re now seeking a manager or management team to take the reins.
The White Lion pub in Broadwindsor has been closed since May 2021. Palmers Brewery, struggling to find the right person to take on the lease, approached the Parish Council to discuss the option of community management.
Our beloved 17th Century pub is a vital and prominent part of the local community which, we believe, can flourish under community management. The road will be long and difficult but the local residents and a team of determined volunteers have already made huge strides towards this goal.
We believe that Community Ownership offers The White Lion a chance to thrive for years to come.
Residents tell us they want traditional pub grub, beautifully cooked and made with locally-sourced ingredients. Think of Sunday roasts piled so high you could climb them. Fresh fish & chips from the Dorset coastline. Bangers & mash with meat from local farms. And, of course, a great pub curry. Here in Dorset we are spoiled for choice when it comes to growers and suppliers so we see local ingredients as a central part of the menu. If you are a local food producer and would like to work with us – get in touch.
Fantastic Beers, Wines & Spirits
We believe the Palmers range of beers, wines & spirits offers something for everyone. From a frosty pint of premium lager on a hot Summer’s day to a traditional ale with your Sunday dinner, we’ll keep the draught beers in tip-top condition. We’ll stock a selection of wines from around the world, hand-picked to perfectly complement our food menu and we’ll have premium spirits & cocktails for those special occasions.
A Warm Welcome
Whether you’re a local face who wants to catch up on the gossip, or a holidaymaker looking to relax after a long trip down the motorway, The White Lion has always had a reputation for a great welcome and friendly atmosphere – that’s something we must preserve. Our plan is to employ a Manager or Management Team to be the figurehead of the business and deliver exceptional service. If you think you might be that manager, let us know.
A Fresh New Look
The White Lion has served thousands of customers over the years and it’s beginning to show. We think the old place has earned a facelift. Palmers have already committed several thousand pounds to refreshing the exterior of the building and our goal is to raise enough money to spruce up the interior. We’re aiming for a lighter, airier feel which still maintains the traditional aspects of this historic building. We’re all agreed though, that carpet has to go!
